How to Buy El Chepe Tickets: Online, by Phone and at the Station

The operator sells Chepe Express tickets through four channels: its website, chepe.mx; WhatsApp on +52 614 888 4800; the toll-free line 800 122 4373; and the ticket offices in Chihuahua, Creel and Los Mochis. Reservations by email go to its reservation centre, and each ticket office has its own address.

Buy from those channels. The operator states on its own site that it is not responsible for tickets bought anywhere else.

The Chepe Regional is not sold online. Seats are booked by calling 800 122 4373 or in person at a ticket office. If your plan starts in Chihuahua city, this is the train you are booking, so leave time for a phone call rather than expecting a checkout page.

Tickets go on sale up to 364 days before departure. The operator suggests buying one to three months ahead depending on the season, and warns that demand is higher over holidays, long weekends and festivities.

Two calendar traps: from May to September the Express runs only Thursday to Sunday, and the Express covers three departures per direction per week the rest of the year. Fix the train dates first and build hotels around them, not the other way round.

Ticket offices in Chihuahua and Los Mochis accept cash and all credit cards. On board, the train cannot process card transactions, so anything you consume during the ride is cash only. Remember that food and drinks are not included in any class.

This is the part worth reading twice. The operator's terms say there are no cancellations and no refunds. If you need a different date, you pay a penalty of MXN 350 per ticket plus any fare difference, and the request has to be in before the 72-hour mark: within 72 hours of the start of your itinerary no changes are accepted. A rebooked ticket must be used within 364 days of the original travel date.

One segment has stricter rules than the rest of the line: between Divisadero and Creel, in either direction and in any class, the operator does not accept changes of any kind, including name changes, however early you ask. If your itinerary hangs on that leg, treat those seats as fixed.

Parties of 20 or more are handled as groups by the operator's group desk, with its own booking and sales terms, and a name change on a group booking carries its own penalty per passenger. If you are organising a family reunion or a photography trip, ask for the group terms in writing before you pay.

Stations open one hour before the train leaves. Check which time zone your departure is in: Sinaloa, where Los Mochis and El Fuerte are, runs one hour behind Chihuahua. Bring one suitcase of up to 25 kg per person plus a carry-on; bicycles and motorcycles are not allowed on board.
